To the psalmist there is no other source of comfort, contentment, joy, or peace in the midst of life's suffering than the truth of who God is. My favorite single verse in the book of Psalms says,
Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth!
Psalm 46:10
Maybe what is most incredible to me about all of this is that David preceded Christ by about 1,000 years, and yet his life is one of the Bible's realest examples of "Christian" living. It is here in the rich stories of Israel's history that we find the clearest pictures of what everyday, lifelong commitment to God looks like.
