the things we take for granted

We spent the weekend (and by weekend I mean Thursday through Monday, 14 hours a day) stripping and repairing and replacing our roof with the help of many dear friends and family. I have to say I knew it would be a lot of work, but I didn't know just how HARD and LONG it would really be. So many details to calculate and fix and implement to make a roof work the way it's supposed to! Thanking God for a roof over my head took on a whole new meaning when we got caught in a sudden downpour RIGHT after stripping the ridge, when there were drips leaking through the dining room window frame, when we were racing the sun to set shingles before it got too hot to work. Roofs don't just happen (gasp) - they are blocked and sheeted and papered and shingled screw by screw, staple by staple, nail by nail.

Thank you so much (SO MUCH) to the many people who helped us get a roof back over our heads - Dad, Dave, Uncle Ralph, Emily, Tim, Jason, Ernie, Jake, Gilbert, Tyler, and of course Suze and Mom and Amy for sending food to feed the troops and prayers to shoo away the bad weather. We are so blessed.
